This is no secret: El Mejunje was founded in and Villa Clara Caibarien to be exact was first municipality to elect a transgender person to political office. Growing up in and living in NYC you don't really pay attention to what is and what isn't as it's all woven into the fabric of the city, but I was surprised that Santa Clara, in the middle of the island would have such a prominent gay community,but then again I spend all of a day and sometimes less in Santa Clara whenever I pass through. I hear you: the only thing Sta Clara has going for it IMO is the Che Memorial and Mejunje which is mostly a nighttime venue ; otherwise, it's a few hours worth of a stop, tops.
