It just depends on who surround yourself with and what your into. It completely depends on your expectations and experiences.
Even though Salt Lake City seems to be relatively liberal only some neighborhoods like Sugarhouse and the Avenues , it is just a tiny little blue grain in a conservative desert. The city has only two gay bars and one of those is mostly full of straight women. Dating is harder than usual even for straight people especially for those who are not from Utah. The people are very very family oriented in Utah and it is quite likely to feel alienated as a single gay guy.
