It is VERY important to note that not only do they require you to use one of their 4 caterers, but they require your event to be STAFFED by the caterers, making the cost about double of a delivery and pick up event. I had used these caterers for my job, but have them deliver meals and we serve. The mansion won't allow that to protect the mansion building, kitchen, etc.
Just make sure you are expecting that "kind" of event. Also, many other vendors know the mansion, which helps in their delivery and communication. Highlands Ranch Mansion was a beautiful place to host a wedding, and we enjoyed having the full building and grounds just for our guests. Jaye was a pleasure to work with through the process. The other staff member working the day of our event was a little disengaged, including miscommunication with the DJ and difficulty finding the wheelchair, so I wish his service had been up to par with the price.
As other reviewers mention, there is very little flexibility allowed vendors, availability to discuss with staff or do rehearsal but I felt that parameters were clearly communicated and are fair, given this is a historic building that has open hours to the community and other events. The Mansion is by far one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Colorado, tucked into the Highlands Ranch neighborhood.
The day we first saw it we knew it had to be the one for our big day. Our guests are still raving about how unique and fun it was, especially decorated for Christmas time That being said -- it's unfortunate that the management makes it a very difficult process to rent and plan.

The venue was absolutely beautiful, and I can't imagine getting married anywhere else; however, our coordinator was unbelievably unhelpful.

She only works two days a week, gives contradictory information, does not always respond to emails and requests, and is very difficult to work with. When she tells you that the rental for the entire day allows you to have access to the mansion for the full day, what it really means is that you have access up to two hours before the event, which is considered a gift from them, not something that you pay for. She was very unhelpful, rude, and very sneaky about the "catches" in their contracts. Be sure to read every line because what she tells you is in the contract is NOT what is actually in the contract.
Loved the look of the venue and had a great time however, there were many loop holes in their contract. Their preferred caterers were far more expensive than the caterer we chose. This is a gorgeous location and any couple will feel enchanted on their day. That being said, our planning experience was less than desirable. The mansion opened for public events just before we signed our contract, so we expected growing pains and hiccups.
But their service was just bad.
It was sometimes hard to get a response to questions and they frequently contradicted themselves. On several occasions we were told verbally that we would incur additional costs for certain uses of the venue due to changing policies, and we had to fight in writing to make sure that they acknowledged what was in our contract and held true to that contract. Their catering contract is very sneaky. We chose an outside caterer because their pre-approved caterers are unbelievably pricey.

Of course our caterer passed this cost on to us, as any caterer would have we would expect nothing less. This was a sneaky way to increase revenue without ever making the true cost known to us. Luckily, the caterer warned us of the hidden cost and cut some of our menu items to compensate for it. Their coordinator agreed to contact our caterer for the walk through, but forgot to do so. We were locked out of the venue for our rehearsal and had no luck getting in contact with anyone to let us in to show our wedding party where to go.
Their coordinator was not there the day of and did a poor job of communicating our needs to the staff member she left in charge. When we arrived, on time, for set up, we were locked out for 20 min, increasing our stress tenfold.
